Noam Wolf, Math and English

Math is more than just numbers, it's about solving problems. This means that we aren't filling out answers on math worksheets. We are figuring out how many desks we would need to get if we had three classes of five students. Or how many dollars we would need to get the entire class Slurpee's if they cost $2.50 and we have five students.

Although, that is simply trying to find the number of things for a few people. What happens when we need to figure out problems for dozens of people? This is what we are learning now. Solving two-digit multiplication problems.

However, the process is tricky. They need to figure out problems like 23 x 47. In order to do this, we must first learn about digits, one's places, and tens places. Carrying over the digits in the tens place is also important. Don't forget the zero placeholders we need to add to the second number. (We will learn about adding an additional zero for every new number later.) Then comes adding everything up.

We do a Parsha Kahoot (Trivia quiz website) every Friday. We will focus on doing a math Kahoot on the math process to figure out which level every student is holding on to. Kahoot has a database system where we can keep track of the answers each student gives, as well as the overall class average.

For reading, we are focusing on typing by using a typing game called type rush. We are focusing on identifying concrete and abstract nouns. Some students are even writing stories about their favorite sports players.

We are learning that writing is about telling ideas, instructions, stories, feeling, and all sorts of information.
